Introduction

Mass Spectrometry is an analytical chemistry technique used to measure the mass-to-charge (m/z) of one or more molecules from a sample. In Australia, there’s a diverse community of mass spectrometrists who combine ionisation techniques, such as electrospray ionisation (ESI) and matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionisation (MALDI), with mass analysers, such as quadrupole time-of-flight (Q-TOF) or Orbitrap analysers, to measure the m/z of molecules from complex biological samples, such as fluid, cells and tissue. This podcast, hosted by Dr Matthew Briggs, aims to interview these world-class Australian mass spectrometrists, academics and industry members to better understand their connection with the masses, both in the context of career paths and research topics.
